Proposed new development - The Gower regeneration

Development overview

Nuplace is working with Telford & Wrekin Council and St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council to deliver a renovation scheme which will both protect the existing Gower Building as well as bring it back into use.

Construction is well underway in St George's with our New Build housing starting to take shape and the refurbishment works progressing in the existing building.

You can find more details of the new scheme below.

The key elements of the scheme are as follows:

A new Parish Office and community space will be delivered for occupation by St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council - refer to the area shaded grey on the site plan for details.  As a result, the Parish Council will move from their existing offices at St Georges C of E Primary School, allowing the school to significantly enhance the educational facilities available to pupils, with more flexibility around their accommodation.

Nuplace will also provide 13 homes within the scheme with 3 two bedroom homes to be delivered within the southern wing of the existing building alongside 10 two bedroom new build dwellings to the rear. The development will have electric car charging points serving the residential and community centre element, supporting people to switch to low carbon means of transport - refer to the area shaded pink on the site plan for details.

Nuplace has worked with the council’s Heritage Specialist and appointed architect ,Wood Goldstraw Yorath, to refine plans for the building ensuring that the external and internal appearance and features of the Gower are preserved as far as possible. At the same time the plans seek to ensure that the existing building is functional and as well insulated as possible to enhance comfort when in use and avoid occupants facing high energy bills and experiencing fuel poverty.

New and improved play facilities

A new children’s play park has been built in St Georges as a part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s refurbishment plans for the iconic Gower building. Located off Marrion’s Hill the new enhanced play park facilities replaces the existing play area at The Gower. Equipment includes both existing and new play equipment for residents to enjoy.

The park was completed in Autumn 2022.

Nuplace contributed £50,000 towards this re-provision through the S106 agreement associated with their planning consent.
